ECOUNITY DAYS IN POLAND

University of Łódź Hosts Vibrant “ECOUNITY DAYS” to Foster Sustainable Urban Leadership

ŁÓDŹ, POLAND – On February 26, 2026, the Faculty of Economics and Sociology at the University of Łódź successfully conducted “ECOUNITY DAYS,” a dedicated multiplier event aimed at enhancing ecological awareness and promoting the role of higher education in sustainable green development. The face-to-face event attracted a total of 66 participants, also including those enrolled in the EcoCity study programme, which has focused on educating specialists in sustainable urban development since the 2018/2019 academic year.

The event was hosted by Ewelina Stasiak, who opened the session by introducing the main objectives and scope of the ECOUNITY project. She highlighted the project’s success in fostering collaboration among stakeholders and particularly praised the high level of student engagement. It was noted that students from the EcoCity programme had been active contributors throughout the project’s duration, participating in surveys, focus groups, and online meetings with international partners.

A central highlight of the day was the interactive Ecounity Day competition. This activity was designed to create a dynamic atmosphere and encourage participants to interact with the core project themes in a memorable way. All participants present participated in the challenge, which helped strengthen their sense of community while reinforcing the topics of green economy and environmental protection. The competition concluded with the official announcement of three winners who were awarded prizes for their correct responses.

Evaluation reports from the event indicate a significant positive impact on the participants’ outlook. The session successfully raised environmental awareness and helped participants better understand the practical importance of ecology and the concept of sustainable development.

Key findings from the participants’ feedback include:

  • Reinforced Beliefs: For many, the event served to deepen existing pro-environmental beliefs.
  • Willingness to Act: Respondents expressed a greater readiness to participate in future pro-social and environmental initiatives.
  • Future Collaboration: The event stimulated a potential readiness among students to collaborate with local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to drive Sustainable Green Development (SGD) related activities in the future.

By empowering participants to transition from theoretical learning to active civic engagement, ECOUNITY DAYS in Poland has provided a vital platform for the next generation of specialists to lead the transition towards a more sustainable society.
